We bid farewell to outdoor music festivals that rocked our cities, parks, deserts and farms this past summer. But as the music community takes to the indoors, the fashion community is coming out to play!
Next Thursday, September 8th, the fashion community hits the streets with the third annual Fashion’s Night Out (FNO), an evening of late night celebrations of designers and brands. Major retailers across the country and globe are keeping their doors open after hours to us shoppers. So grab your girlfriends because only this evening will there be exclusive offers, prizes, give-aways, and limited edition merchandise from your favorite retailers -- all to the backdrop of DJ’s spinning and champagne cocktail receptions.
Launched in 2009 by Vogue, Fashion’s Night Out aimed to take the recession by the horns, garnering community support to restore consumer confidence and help boost the industry’s economy. Taking place at the start of this month’s New York Fashion Week for Spring 2012, NYC is the hub of FNO and will be the platform for major designer and celebrity appearances. But don’t fret, FNO events span across the US, globally, and even online! You can check their website for local events happening near you.
I’ve participated in Fashion’s Night Out for the past couple years and I plan on hitting a few events this year. I will say that it would be awesome if more up-and-coming designers, boutiques and e-tailers participated to round out the fun of shopping. Comparing this sense of community to music -- it’s always great to see top acts together with new artists on the bill. I think new designers and brands would get great exposure if more of them represented.
All in all it’s a fantastic evening and no better way to shop new fall collections. The FNO community pulls out all the stops to make our experience fun.
And to commemorate the annual event, there is a very cool FNO Merchandise Collection, where 40% of proceeds will be donated to the NYC AIDS Fund in the NYC Community Trust.
Fashion’s Night Out was launched in 2009 by Vogue in partnership with Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company and City of New York.
